As Chair of the Asia-Pacific World Regional Office of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and on behalf of all members of the region, I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to the homepage of the Asia Pacific WRO website.
The IACP, headquartered in Virginia (USA), is the world’s largest organization of Police executives drawn from over 100 countries. The Association seeks to promote police/security professionalism in different spheres, upgrade police science & technology through mutual sharing of experience, knowledge and skills in diverse fields of policing thereby fostering international co-operation amongst the security forces/agencies of the world. Subjects like terrorism, narcotics, drug trafficking etc., which are of vital concern to member countries in general, form the primary focus of IACP’s deliberations. For the purpose, the IACP organises every year a series of conferences, seminars and training programmes covering a wide variety of police/security related subjects, besides circulation of professional literature.
The Asia-Pacific chapter of the WRO was formed in 1994 under the Chairmanship of Director Intelligence Bureau, India, with its headquarters in New Delhi. It has over 250 members on its rolls from 23 countries of the region. The WRO is actively involved in spreading the message of the IACP among the member countries by way of organizing Conferences, seminars, etc in different centers of the region. Its role in bringing together the police executives of various member countries and nurturing smooth working relations amongst them, thereby assisting them in the effective furtherance of their common goals of law enforcement, has been significant. Given the prevailing security situation in the region, the importance of cooperation among the law enforcement agencies through a platform such as the IACP can hardly be overstated.
Through this medium, I would like to request my professional colleagues in the Asia-Pacific region to share their experiences in law enforcement, for effective policing in the region as a whole.
Yours Sincerely,
Rajiv Mathur
Indian Police Service Director,
Intelligence Bureau & Chairperson
Asia-Pacific World Region Office of The IACP, New Delhi
